چکیده

Abstract Human intervention in forested ecosystems is hoped to perform a fundamental shift within the next decade by reverting current forest loss—a major source of CO 2 emissions—to net gain taking up carbon and thus aiding climate change mitigation. The demanded extensive establishment forests will local surface energy fluxes, with it climate, addition competing food fiber production for land water. Scenario building models encompass this competition resources but have turned blind eye biogeophysical (BGP) flux disturbance so far. We combine benefit sequestration afforestation/reforestation (A/R) additional incentive or penalty BGP induced cooling warming translating temperature equivalent. then include new aspect land-use model Model Agricultural Production their Impact on Environment (MAgPIE) via modifying application price greenhouse gases (GHGs). This enables us use MAgPIE produce A/R scenarios that are optimized both potential equivalent effect, as well socio-economic trade-offs A/R. Here we show optimal patterns substantially altered effects into account. Considering benefits establishing triples (+203.4%) viable global area 2100 from 116 351 Mha under conditions shared socioeconomic pathway (SSP2) scenario driven same GHG price. Three quarters (76.0%, +179 Mha) additionally established tropical climates alone. Therefore, further neglect undervalues while simultaneously running risk proposing counterproductive measures at high latitudes. However, focus forestation intensifies where contribute most related need be considered alongside inhibit unintentional harm mitigation efforts.

Afforestation in China cools local land surface temperature.

China has the largest afforested area in the world (∼62 million hectares in 2008), and these forests are carbon sinks. The climatic effect of these new forests depends on how radiant and turbulent energy fluxes over these plantations modify surface temperature. For instance, a lower albedo may cause warming, which negates the climatic benefits of carbon sequestration. Here, we used satellite me...

Substantially improved matching for 2D patterns

Semiconductor manufacturing continues to charge down Moore’s Law of scaling. But every shrink increases the burden on lithography imaging. Traditional paths include increasing NA and reducing the illumination wavelength. However, the latest systems have maxed out NA for water-based immersion and wavelength developments are awaiting EUV systems, which are a few years away from volume production ...

Identifying suitable mangrove habitats at the local scale for mangrove afforestation in southern Iran

Afforestation has been one of the most effective measures to compensate for mangrove ecosystem loss across the world and requires a detailed understanding of all contributing hydrological and physico-chemical factors affecting their growth. In this study, the Maxent habitat suitability model was employed to identify suitable mangrove habitats in the Hara Roud-e Gaz Protected Area. Presence da...

Accounting for Temperature in Predator Functional Responses

A rational mechanism that integrates temperature-mediated activity cycles into standard predator functional responses is presented. Daily temperature variations strongly influence times that predators can search for prey, and they affect the activity periods of prey, thereby modifying their detection by predators. Thus, key parameters in the functional response, the search time and the detectio...
